Zusammenfassung
The Putative Orthologous Groups database (POGs-http://pogs.uoregon.edu)presents scientists with an online web application for understanding gene function through the phylogenetic relationships between the genomes of Arabidopsis, Maize, Rice, and Poplar Tree. We discuss all matters needed for understanding the Biology and Information Technology behind the POGs database such as the Central Dogma, Phylogenetics, Plant Cell anatomy, Whole Genome Sequencing, Programming languages, Web Applications, Database servers, and more. Lastly, we discuss a real world case study on how plant geneticists use POGs everyday. Ultimately, POGs "fills a sorely needed gap in this post genomic era for the plant community."
