Thornes, Timothy Jon2024-10-162024-10-161996-12https://hdl.handle.net/1794/30110111 pagesThe structure of the verbal word in the Yahooskin-Northern Paiute language can be viewed as consisting of layers of functionally complicit morphology. Central to this structure is a semantic core, or STEM, which also participates in the lexical derivation of argument structure. Next is a layer of valence-altering morphology that functions systematically to manipulate argument structure at a syntactic level. This layer, constitutes the THEME portion of verbal structure. A variety of finite morphology occurs suffixally to this central, thematic portion of the Northern Paiute verb.en-USCreative Commons BY-NC-ND 4.0-USUO theses and dissertations are provided for research and educational purposes and may be under copyright by the author or the author’s heirs.
