Captured November 15, 2007.The City Council created Portland Future Focus in April 1990 to develop a vision and plan for the next decade. The planning process is led by a Policy Committee of 155 citizens. Although City government has provided the opportunity for this effort, business, citizen, educational, neighborhood, governmental and other interests are all equal and active partners. Portland Future Focus has five objectives: Educate the community about what the future holds[,] unless we change current trends; create a vision of what Portlanders want their community to be in the next decade; identify the major changes needed to acheive our community vision; Forge partnerships between governments, businesses, community organizations, and other interests to find solutions to common problems; build an action plan for the next three to five years to be implemented by the community organizations most suited to accomplish necessary changes.
