Captured June 1, 2006.The primary purpose of the Brookings urban renewal plan is to revitalize the commercial area of the City, and to attract new businesses and jobs to the commercially zoned areas of Brookings. The renewal plan builds upon other work and study efforts focused on this area of Brookings. They include a 1990 urban renewal plan (not adopted), a 1999 ODDA Resource Team Report, a July 2000 local Town Center revitalization study effort (The PROUD Study), and a 2002 Downtown Master Plan by the Urban Design Studio. The Brookings urban renewal area is larger than either the PROUD study area, or the 2002 Master Plan area, but incorporates those areas within its boundary.
