This paper was completed as part of the final research component in the University of Oregon Applied Information Management Master's Degree Program [see htpp://aim.uoregon.edu].A gap exists in understanding the leadership actions required of corporate Chief Information Officers (CIO) (Gottschalk,2007). This study examines that gap through a review of current job requirements and responsibilities of the CIO, extracted from selected literature published between 1998 and 2007. Focus is on the role of leadership in for-profit organizations, as framed by Kotter (1998). The leadership definition includes three characteristics: (1) setting a direction, (2) aligning people and (3) motivating people.AIMCIOChief Information OfficersApplied Information ManagementFor profit organizationsDataThe Role of Leadership in Job Requirements and Responsibilities of the CIOOther
