Clark Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Music Performance June 2018This thesis explores one potential solution to the problem plaguing all classical music students today: how to find a job and shape a career. Through my exploration of documentary songwriting, I have investigated the benefits that classical training can bring to other genres. In the process, I have also experienced the benefits that exploring documentary songwriting brings to a classical musician. This exploration attempts to push the boundaries of a highly specialized skill – classical cello performance – and to use the cello in a different way. Using this fusion of genres, I hope to design a career that brings me fulfillment as a cellist.en-USCreative Commons BY-NC-ND 4.0-USDocumentary Songwriting and CelloCelloDocumentarySongwritingFolk MusicPush Farther ProjectMusicDid She Change: Exploring Cello in Documentary Songwriting and Expanding the Role of a Classical CellistThesis/Dissertation
