Item Open Access Dissociation : Vol. 4, No. 1, p. 055-061 : The dissociated executive self and the cultural dissociation barrier(Ridgeview Institute and the International Society for the Study of Multiple Personality and Dissociation, 1991-03) Ross, Colin A.Multiplicity is an organizational principle of the normal human mind and also of non-human systems. The psychology of modern industrial man is characterized by a suppression of normal multiplicity, with the creation of a dissociated executive self insulated from other part selves in the mind by a cultural dissociation barrier. Twenty-two properties of the dissociated executive self are discussed, and testable predictions of this theory of pathological multiplicity are described.
