Item Open Access At the Crossroads? Facing a Future in the Performing Arts Without Subscription(2007) Bean, Robert D.As government funding and subscription bases continue to dwindle for American non-profit professional performing arts organizations, one must begin to take a serious look at the cultural market place. What has changed? The current business models used by the majority of regional performing arts non profit organizations in this country are no longer able to sustain the burden of high artistic, production and administrative costs that have continued to rise over the last quarter century. These organizations are quickly coming to a crossroads, and must decide how best to move forward so that our communities continue to have the option of experiencing and participating in live theatre, classical music, opera, and dance. It is time to take a deeper look at American regional theatres (ART) and the business models and funding systems that sustain them. This research project will examine current ART business strategies, including subscription, as well as future expectations and options. This is executed by looking at patron trends, senior management consultation, and relevant case study.
