The main goal of this project is to create a sense of unity within the community. This is achieved by creating public spaces; the site is broken into 3 public courtyards which each unit faces. Aside from housing, the site also accommodates a daycare and a community center.Item Open Access Nuevo Amanecer Phase - IV(2010) Bishop, Andrew; Cheng, NancyFarmworker Housing: Theory and design of housing for migrant farm workers in rural Oregon. Creating a new collaborative community so close to the core of Woodburn, it is important for the residents of Nuevo Amanacer IV to have an identity of their own, while acnowledging the surrounding community. The units are sized to be similar in street dimension to the other homes along second street. The hight and density is kept lower near the street and rises up along the east and northern edges of the site. For this project, we addressed three aspects of the farmworker community, identity, community, and affordability. Focusing on these, our goals were to: -Create thresholds and transitions between levels of community -Create gathering space for the internal community, as well as the external community, to come together -Create a prototype that is self empowering and self sustaining, not only for the farmworkers but also the farm owners
