The planning area is bordered by the Snake River to the east, the Umatilla National Forest, the Oregon-Washington stateline and the Columbia River to the north, and by Gilliam, Wheeler, Grant and Malheur Counties to the west and south (refer to Map 1 and Figure 1). | dc.description.abstract | Announces decision approving plan. The selected Resource Management Plan is derived essentially from the Preferred Alternative, but includes desirable components of the other alternatives set forth in the draft RMP/EIS. It emphasizes production on a sustained yield basis, and use of renewable resources on the majority of public lands in the Baker Planning Area. It also provides for protection, maintenance or enhancement of riparian, soil, water, cultural and paleontological, botanical and recreational resource values as well as wildlife habitat. This alternative is the environmentally preferable alternative. This Resource Management Plan best meets national guidance, best satisfies the planning criteria, including consistency with other Federal, state, and local plans and best resolves issues while contributing to the local economy. | en |
