There are multiple statistical trends amongst college students that are worrisome -- the most poignant of which concerns student mental health. Multiple deadlines, midterms, and projects -- it's part of college life. But add in a part-time job, extracurricular activities, balancing a social life, and loans, and it’s no wonder so many undergraduates are stressed out. As part of our first-year Health Science ARC project, we spent a semester delving into research, hearing presentations from experts on the subject here at the University of Oregon, and discussing with our classmates about this topic. For our statistics, we used a comprehensible Associated Press partnered mtvU poll to get a broad picture of typical college student stressors. The poll interviewed 2,240 undergraduate students at 40 randomly chosen four-year schools across the country to learn more about their stress. 77% of students attributed their stress to academic concerns. 67% of students worried with financial pressures. 54% of students reported feeling stressed about family issues. 47% worried they would be unable to find a job after graduation. 35% of students stress over health problems. Fortunately, there are also many great methods and resources for managing stress. We found the most effective to be finding a work/life balance, reaching out to others, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and developing a positive mindset. Our goal with this infographic is to raise awareness about the causes of stress for students and the resources students can turn to for managing stress.en_US
