The purpose of this paper is to examine the business assistance and economic development activities that community-based organizations (CBOs) undertake in rural public lands contexts in the U.S. West. We conducted three in-depth case studies of CBOs in Washington, Oregon, and California and a survey of 63 CBOs across the West.en_US
