Women have remained consistently underrepresented in the administration of American art museums. Though there are significantly more women museum directors today than forty years ago women are still a minority, especially in larger institutions where compensation and prestige are highest. Despite the lack of comprehensive, current scholarship, the significance of gender equity in museum management remains relevant today. Taking Stock of Gender Equity in Museum Management draws on the perspectives of present-day professionals to update research into the progress made in attaining equity in the museum field, details the difficulties of gathering data, and offers recommendations for action and further study.en
