A patient is described who was diagnosed as having Munchausen's Syndrome and Munchausen's by Proxy as well as Multiple Personality Disorder. Commonalities between Munchausen's and Multiple Personality Disorder include: multigenerational patterns, self-mutilating behaviors, multiple somatic symptoms, having been accused of lying, use of many different names, and fuguelike disappearances . Commonalities between Munchausen's and child abuse related behaviors include hospital peregrination and the production of inadequate explanations for inflicted injuries. The present case is one of a series of Munchausen' s Syndrome case reports in which extreme abuse has been documented in the patient's childhood.en
