An increasing number of cities around the world are establishing cultural districts in order to boost the economy and to recognize the cultural values within the community. This research project examines the goals and objectives; recent development; governmental involvement and impact; and recognition from local community about cultural districts. Maryland’s Arts and Entertainment Districts are chosen for case studies in order to analyze the establishment and operation of United States cultural districts that involve state leadership and legislation. Through interviews and content analysis, this research aims to draw implications and suggestions to the cultural planning associated with the cultural infrastructure development in Hong Kong in the future. The principles behind the recommendations are also applicable to develop cultural districts in other cities.en_US
