This study explored 16 selected policy statements that focus on the current state of music education as it relates to the music section of the National Standards for Arts Education (1994). A content analysis was conducted on selected literature published between 1995 and 2001. Suggestions for future consideration in policy reform are offered to leaders in the education community to support the development of effective music curriculum in their districts and schools.en
