dc.description.abstract	This work first examines the American Catholic voter from a historical perspective. It looks at the development of this demographic through major presidential elections, allowing for a better understanding of Catholics’ response to current political situations. The work then describes the American Catholic in 2004, laying out their current divisions, beliefs and relevant political issues. Specifically looking at the 2004 presidential election, the work examines the Roman Catholic Church’s role in American politics, and the influence it has upon the voter’s decision. The Catholic outreach campaigns of the two major political parties are scrutinized as well, in order to better understand what swayed Catholic voters to make their ultimate decision. All of these pieces are then combined to analyze and draw conclusions about the American Catholic voter.	en
