My work pretends to respond to the weight of the world like people do: forms bend, ostensibly pulled down by the weight of a tassel, canvas gets heavy and starts to sag, or objects buckle and fold, unable to stand upright against the wall any longer. The paintings appear animate, almost like they have been “caught in the act.” Although they seem mirror-like, reflecting human actions, the paintings are awkward, stiff, and stuck. Oscillating between being art objects and masquerading as everyday objects, my work is at once a painting and a pair of pants, or a pillowcase, couch cushion, or tile floor; they are unresolved, defying easy categorization. It is this ambiguous, indeterminate space of painting that intrigues me.en_US
