dc.description.abstract | Using muted group theory, this thesis explores the experiences of an all-woman rock band in the current cultural climate. This qualitative study uses a methodological triangulation that incorporates ethnography, in-depth interviews, and feminist critical discourse analysis. The data reveal that women in the rock music scene are a muted group, and as such they face many unique challenges, especially when attempting to create music using a feminist collaborative creative process, or conveying a message that challenges patriarchal gender norms. The results of this study point to numerous opportunities for researchers, educators, and those involved in the music scene to examine issues surrounding gender in rock music. | en |
