Abstract

FEIS proposes to authorize special use permit for construction, maintenance and operation of a permanent vehicle weigh and safety station on the northbound land of US Highway 97 south of Bend, between mileposts 145 and 148 adjacent to the Newberry National Monument. Includes vegetation clearing such as fuel reduction on 100 feet, thinning of trees to a 12-15 foot spacing, mechanical cutting of shrubs and grasses, installation of gate and signs, barriers, monitoring and maintenance, and construction of building, parking and work areas. Record of decision announces implementation of Alternative 2 of the project EA.
