Abstract

In response to worldwide social and environmental crises, I will design a model for contemporary living in the extreme context of Guangzhou, China. The push for China to become a world player has resulted in rapid modernization at the expense of the social fabric and traditional living. This high-density, mixed-use development aims to demonstrate that sustainable living and maintaining of traditional family ties are critical and acheivable elements of China's development. The energy program outlines the strategies for limiting energy consumption and producing all energy needed in the development on-site by renewable and clean methods. The social and energy needs are aligned throughout the developent.
