Item Open Access Collaborative Purchase on Demand: Update from the University of Oregon(2011-06-07) Fowler, David C.; Bean, MargaretItem Open Access Global Resource Sharing from a Pacific Northwest Perspective(Emerald Group Publishing Limited, 2012) Bean, Margaret; Frederiksen, Linda; Nance, HeidiPurpose - This paper describes the international ILL experience of three academic libraries in the Pacific Northwest and analyzes factors impacting the success of international ILL. The authors speculate on three possible scenarios going forward and conclude with a call to action. Design/methodology/approach - The authors apply PEST and SWOT techniques, using their own institutions as case studies. Findings - Some of the most critical factors affecting international ILL at their home institutions include the terms of electronic license agreements, open access, and physical delivery costs. Originality/value - The internal and external factors affecting international ILL at these institutions are broadly applicable to all types of libraries throughout the world.Item Open Access Interlibrary Loan - Reference Collaboration: Filling Hard-to-Find Faculty Requests(Journal of Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery, and Electronic Reserves, 2011-01) Bean, Margaret; Rigby, MiriamWe have implemented a successful in-house outsourcing program between University of Oregon Library departments. Collaboration between interlibrary loan staff and subject specialists appropriates ILLiad e-mail routing capabilities to enable subject specialists to join the workflow in processing difficult ILL requests. The goals of the program are to fill more requests, fill requests more quickly, give subject specialists the opportunity to learn more about their faculty members’ research needs, and to create a stepping stone to a purchase-on-demand program.
