A combined undergraduate and graduate seminar, this course will address how arts in healthcare contribute to quality of life, patient healing and wellness, and community health and well-being. Class sessions develop critical thinking and address theoretical, aesthetic, and practical issues in managing therapeutic arts programs in healthcare settings. Readings and classroom activities are designed to introduce you to major functions and issues in the administration of a nonprofit cultural organization. Students are expected to analyze readings and critically engage in the content of each class session. The pedagogical goals are to: (1) map the theoretical and practical terrain of arts administration, and (2) develop leadership, critical inquiry, graduate-level writing and presentation skills.Item Open Access AAD 472/572: Artistic Administration in Performing Arts(2015-03-27) Lambert, PatriciaThis course focuses on developing leadership. and management skills for professional non-profit perfornling arts administration (e.g., theatre, music, opera, dance). A combined undergraduate and graduate professional colloquium, this course will address the changing context in which the performing arts operate, strategic leadership in performing arts administration, and change management capacities required of emerging leaders in this field. Course sessions are framed by topics in artistic administration, programming, artist management, venue/facilities management, and operations/production management. This course is designed as a partner course to AAD 4/571 Performing Arts Management (winter 2015).Item Open Access AAD 609: Practicum(2015) Arts and Administration ProgramIn the Arts and Administration department, a cornerstone of pedagogy is field education reflecting one of the program's core goals, student centered learning. Practicum is a short-term, experiential field education opportunity where the graduate seeks a guided learning experience with a community partner organization who is looking to cultivate the next generation of arts leaders and participants. A graduate student can earn credit through the AAD 609 Practicum course and all field work must be completed with in one term (or 10 weeks).
