Most people know that the 1960s and early 1970s were volatile years in the United States of America, and particularly for American universities. What many do not know, is that in addition to the well-known protests at Berkeley and Columbia, Kent State and San Francisco State, there are other Universities that experienced these trying times as well. Stories, for example, like the ones that took place on the University of Oregon campus, in Eugene, Oregon: stories that have, for the most part, been lost or forgotten. I ventured into this world of protest and paranoia, students and a changing society, buried deep in the archives at the University of Oregon Library, and came out with a new understanding and appreciation for the lengths that both students and administrators were willing to go to stand up for what they believed.en
