Abstract

Proposes to respond to problematic conditions for the area surrounding Crane Prairie and Wickiup Reservoirs such as high stand densities, insect and disease infestations, and shifts in species compositions within the dry forest types, as well as to problems from recreational activities such as dispersed camping that cause loss of vegetation, soil compaction, erosion and inappropriate disposal of human waste. Actions include commercial thinning, dwarf mistletoe removal, salvage harvesting on diseased and insect-damaged trees on 230 acres, mechanical treatment of shrubs and prescribed fire to reduce risk of wildfire. Also includes boat ramp reconstruction, prohibition of pit toilets within 150 feet of the high water mark of either reservoir, closure and rehabilitation of 15 dispersed camping sites, and reconstruction, improvement and closing of various roads.
