This study is concerned with the early winter (October, November, December) dynamics of phytoplankton populations in the South Slough of the Coos Bay estuary. A student study, conducted at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in July and August 1973 established the size, location and make-up of the phytoplankton population present during the summer months . It is hoped that this study, when combined with the findings of the OIMB summer study, will lead to the formulation of a summer- fall-winter trend in the phytoplankton populations in the South Slough.en
