| dc.description.abstract | In the effort to check with evidence against what had for some time been a growing conviction that the Renaissance had arrived or was in the process of arriving in America, and as the result of interest created through years of study in the field of aesthetics, the writer recently sent a questionnaire to more than 600 college and university presidents asking them, among other queries relating to higher education, “What place do the Fine Arts have in your course of study?” For a Regent of the University of Oregon for 15 years it had been my privilege to work closely with the late President P. L. Campbell and with Dean Ellis F. Lawrence of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts, and to aid them, through assembling material foundations, and carrying out their great dreams for the expansion of the University into the field of the Fine Arts. So this seemed the best way to determine what other institutions of higher learning were doing to hasten the coming of the kingdom of art. From the hundreds of answers which came from a large majority of the college executives who answered this question it is manifest that in nearly all the colleges of the country there are an increasing number in variety of Fine Arts courses being given. These courses range all the way from a few courses in music, art application, and aesthetics, to fully develop and highly organized schools of Fine Arts that are on a parity with any other school or department in a University. | en_US |
