The bulk of this paper will be devoted to an analysis of relationships between wages and various statistical data. In spite of this emphasis it must not be forgotten that a negotiated wage rate is the result of a complex of influences, not the least of which are the mental attitudes of the individual bargainers. In order that a balance may be preserved the author proposes to begin with a brief narrative of some of the more important non-quantitative factors which are peculiar to the determination of wage rates in the sawmill industry of western Oregon and Washington.en_US
