Abstract:
Over several years working in a bead store,
and more recently studying ancient
beads from Southeast Asia, I frequently
saw beads that had circular or half-moon-shaped
marks on their surface (Figure 1). Most of the
beads were old, fairly large, and spherical. The
source and meaning of these marks have generally puzzled bead scholars.
