In the 1970' s when the Black Radical Movement was at its height and the United States was experiencing incredible social and political changes and challenges, there was a moment of dialogue and expression from the prisons. The experience of imprisonment fits well into the discussion of a social movement such as the Black Radical Movement because the prison plays an important part in the conception of freedom. The following manuscript will seek to engage the writings of prisoners in the complex exploration of the notion of freedom. How is freedom realized in an arena of unfreedom?en_US
