This project is an attempt to write a history of the University of Oregon Rowing Program. To my knowledge the only other written history of the team is included on a defunct team website used in 2010. The history of the University of Oregon Crew spans back to the fall of 1967 when a group of students traveled out to Dexter Reservoir and erected the sturdy little boathouse that has stood there ever since. In the beginning the crew was small, even compared to other West Coast crews, and had to rent old boats from the schools in California and Washington since it lacked the necessary funds to purchase any. Rowing was still in the fledging stages in the West and only the University of Washington, Cal and Stanford had programs of any size. The Oregon club boosted its credibility in the early eighties by purchasing their first boat. It has developed by leaps and bounds since then, becoming an able competitor to against strong crews along the northwest. Crew is currently the largest club sport at the University of Oregon.en_US
