This thesis explores one potential solution to the problem plaguing all classical music students today: how to find a job and shape a career. Through my exploration of documentary songwriting, I have investigated the benefits that classical training can bring to other genres. In the process, I have also experienced the benefits that exploring documentary songwriting brings to a classical musician. This exploration attempts to push the boundaries of a highly specialized skill – classical cello performance – and to use the cello in a different way. Using this fusion of genres, I hope to design a career that brings me fulfillment as a cellist.en_US
