Abstract
My thesis for the Clark Honors College will consist of a graduation lecture recital
and this critical introduction documents my preparation for it. It contains the
plans I have originally made for my lecture-recital, descriptions of situations that have
occurred, and my decisions based on those situations that have resulted in my final
project. Included is a history and description of the pieces that I had planned to play and
the common challenges that musicians encounter while preparing to perform them. I
have also included my research on Focal Dystonia in musicians and how famous
musicians throughout history have dealt with it leading up to modern treatments for the
condition. Finally, I have included my personal journey in dealing with Focal Dystonia,
starting from the onset of the condition leading all the way up to my current use of
Botox treatments.
