Adams Apple Commercial Thinning & Density Management will occur on one unit (approximately 296 acres) of mid-seral, second-growth forest approximately 47 years old located in the Elk Creek/Umpqua River 5th Field Watershed. Of the 296 acres of treatment, 6 acres will be removed for the development of spur roads and rights-of-ways.

Ag47 projects environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact

Proposes three projects. Project 1, the Ag47 timber sale, is a proposal to commercially thin approximately 432 acres. Project 2, Riparian Treatment without wood removal in the sections containing units of the Ag47 timber sale, is a proposal to create snags, CWD, wolf trees and small openings in Riparian Reserves with several small scale projects to enhance wildlife habitat. Project 3, Thomas Creek LSR Enhancement, is a proposal to improve habitat conditions by density management thinning (with wood removal) on approximately 67 acres of 40-50 year old plantations in Late Successional Reserve. Project 3 would also include other small scale treatment projects, without wood removal, adjacent to the stands proposed for thinning. FONSI finds no environmental impact statement is needed.

Identifies 17 issues to be addressed by the RMP/EIS, including upland ecological communities, riparian communities, woodland communities, wildlife habitat, special status species and habitat, energy and mineral resources, special area management within the Cooperative Management and Protection Area and the AMU, management of wildland fire and fuels, recreation opportunities, relationship with private landowners, management of wild horses in Herd Management Areas, cultural sites, noxious weeds, OHV use, aquatic habitat and water quality, transportation, economic and social status of rural communities. The record of decision approves the attached RMP for the AMU.

Announces decision approving plan. The selected Resource Management Plan is derived essentially from the Preferred Alternative, but includes desirable components of the other alternatives set forth in the draft RMP/EIS. It emphasizes production on a sustained yield basis, and use of renewable resources on the majority of public lands in the Baker Planning Area. It also provides for protection, maintenance or enhancement of riparian, soil, water, cultural and paleontological, botanical and recreational resource values as well as wildlife habitat. This alternative is the environmentally preferable alternative. This Resource Management Plan best meets national guidance, best satisfies the planning criteria, including consistency with other Federal, state, and local plans and best resolves issues while contributing to the local economy.

Bare Cupboard commercial thinning and density management decision document

Announces decision to authorize implementation of the Bare Cupboard Commercial Thinning and Density Management timber sale following the project design features (PDFs) established in the Upper Umpqua Watershed Plan as adjusted in the Decision Record. This timber sale is located within the General Forest Management Area (GFMA) land-use allocation. The stand that will be treated is second-growth forest 51 years old. Bare Cupboard will provide approximately 3.418 MMBF of merchantable timber available for auction. Approximately 2.233 MMBF is within the GFMA portion of the sale and 1.185 MMBF is within Riparian Reserves.
