Here, we imagine a digital archive that will animate the artistic, cultural, social, political, sexual, knowledge and subject experiments and possibilities opened up, and foreclosed, by a phenomenon like Meow Mix—the Montreal-based cabaret for “bent girls and their buddies”—while foregrounding the ethical and technological contradictions that characterize the digitizing process. Pursuing concerns of labour, preservation, design, and subcultural politics and aesthetics as essential to the digitizing process, we reproduce the interrupted, reflexive flow of this research-creation project.Item Open Access RGB: You and Me (A Queer, Feminist Analysis of Emotion, Affect, and Materiality within Google Images)(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Bigelow, MeganRGB: You and Me is a visual and textual project based on the intersections of representation, color, popular imagery, hegemony, affect, and the social, situated within Google Image searches and Wikipedia. Drawing upon the work of Luciana Parisi, Robin James, Jamie “Skye” Bianco, and Charles W. Mills, I will argue that these colors and suggested related terms illustrate how technology and images both reify and reinforce dominant ideological norms—through the enmeshment of technologies and bodies—and propose that a queer, feminist, material consideration of these effects within the framework of affect theory has implications for ethical projects and theorizing from spaces such as in-betweens and what Parisi deems ‘incomputables’.Item Open Access Monstrous Agents: Cyberfeminist Media and Activism(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Barnett, TullyItem Open Access Love in the Time of Racism(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Moore, Darnell; Casper, Monica JItem Open Access iEarth(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Zylinska, Joanna, 1971-Item Open Access Reconstructing Gendered Narratives Online: Nudity for Popularity on Digital Platforms(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Mukhongo, Lynete LusikeThe focus of this paper is on how young female internet users in Africa, with emphasis on Kenya, are constructing their own gendered narratives online. The emphasis is on how they are appropriating social media by posting controversial and often nude pictures of themselves online, a major shift in the production and consumption of such images in a patriarchal culture, which is driven by mainstream discourse that often assumes that the patriarchal culture exploits the female body in mainstream visual cultures. Today, we are witnessing female internet users carefully manipulating social media whether in a bid to feed into the patriarchal dominated culture that exploits the female body, or as a method to exploit that very patriarchal culture that draws its life from visuals that exploit the female body.Item Open Access Conclusion: It's Our Collective, Principled Making that Matters Most: Queer Feminist Media Praxis @Ada(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Juhasz, AlexandraItem Open Access Make, Share, Care: Social Media and LGBTQ Youth(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Olu, Jenzen; Irmi, KarlItem Open Access Introduction: Queer Feminist Media Praxis(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Fotopoulou, Aristea; O'Riordan, KateItem Open Access Steampunk Practices: Time, Tactility, and a Racial Politics of Touch(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Sundén, JennyItem Open Access Revising 'Re-Vision': Documenting 1970s Feminism and the Queer Potentiality of Digital Feminist Archives(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Samer, RoxanneItem Open Access "Weird" Sex: Identity, Censorship, and China's Women Sex Bloggers(Fembot Collective) O'Connor, LindseyItem Open Access The Encyclopedia Must Fail! - Notes on Queering Wikipedia(Fembot Collective, 2014-07) Raval, NoopurThis essay draws on experiences of Wikipedia editing in the context of projects aiming to make Wikipedia more diverse and globally relevant.
