Abstract

This project is a land use and transportation plan for what is commonly referred to in the City of Ashland (City) as the "Railroad Property." Over half of the undeveloped commercially-zoned acreage in the plan area is owned by Union Pacific Railroad. Large portions of the property have recently come available for sale and commercially zoned land is in high demand.... The four main goals of the project are: identify opportunities to develop the Railroad Property as a traditional neighborhood designed to provide opportunities for walking, bicycling and using transit; Determine the effect of the brownfield status of the Union Pacific Railroad property and cleanup plan on future development; properly design a new street network as part of Ashland’s transportation system; integrate the new development with the surrounding neighborhoods.
