Includes removal of excess trees using helicopter and cable yarding methods to protect soils and residual vegetation, heritage resources, and to avoid the need to construct additional roads.Item Open Access Jim's Creek savanna restoration environmental assessment(2006-06) Willamette National Forest (Agency : U.S.)Proposes to restore and develop 688 acres of open, low-density savanna forest dominated by large ponderosa pine Douglas-fir, and Oregon white oak through removal of 100 year-old conifer trees that have colonized the area in question subsequent to the commencement of fire suppression. This alternative is expected to yield approximately 40 million board feet of timber sawlogs to meet the purpose and need of maintaining the growth and health of the stands and producing a sustainable, commercial yield of wood products. The alternative uses a combination of ground-based, skyline and helicopter log-yarding systems with an emphasis on minimizing residual damage and disturbance.Item Open Access Upper Middle Fork Watershed road stormproofing and restoration environmental assessment(2007-03) Willamette National Forest (Agency : U.S.)Proposes to close and store approximately 24 miles of roads in the watershed to minimize adverse affects to the resources and improve ability to perform adequate road maintenance activities within the existing budgetary constraints.
